This is the very first time that I am writing a preview of a book (I love my books whole and stories with a The End) but I just loved this innovative concept in story telling that authors Deepa Pinto and Ram Prakash are bringing to the readers, so here I am. Photo Fiction – that is what they call the genre that their debut book releases into and if the sample is anything to go by, its ethereal.
The Stopover is a collection of four intriguing novellas that talks of people and their journeys in life, only the way fiction can. So what is the big deal, you ask? There are so many out there. You read so many of their reviews. The photographs. That is the deal and a big deal, because what Ram Prakash’s photography brings to the reader is not just a slice of life, he takes us to life – transportation, sheer visual transportation. The other deal is the exotic settings to the stories. Of the pages that Deepa sent me as a sample, even on a PDF file, I sat rooted – bewitched by the photographs and enthralled by the story. It was a tough choice between words and pictures (as reading till now did not mean both) but here both together make for a wonderful word journey. I can only imagine how mesmeric would it be to touch, to see it in paperback – a movie on pages.
The writing is smooth with the right measure of suspense to keep you hooked while the photographs transport you on the wings of imagination to those exotic locales. (I did not feel that I have never been to Leh before, when I read The Tibetan Wheel of Wisdom). The book releases in the last week of October 2012 and I for once am looking forward to hold it in my hands and review it as part of Debut Indian Writers Challenge.
Deepa and Ram have put up a very aesthetic book website, you should read the story briefs there. I bet you too will be fascinated and eager.
